Jam, Jellies, and Other Fruit Spreads

The making of jams, jellies, and other fruit spreads originated as a way to preserve the abundant harvest of summer fruits to enjoy throughout the long barren winter. At that time, when there was no refrigeration, a small amount of sugar was added to the fruit as a preservative. Today, commercial jams, jellies, and other fruit contain more sugar than fruit.

You can make your own at home with fresh or frozen fruit and any sweetener you choose.
